Galleria — Privacy Policy

Effective date: 26 July 2026

This policy covers Galleria for macOS, published by LightOnCanvas ("we", "our", "us"). It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version: Galleria collects nothing about you, and there is no server of ours anywhere in the picture. We could not gather your data if we wanted to, because there is nowhere for it to go.

What we do not collect

Galleria does not collect, transmit, store or share any personal information. Specifically, none of the following ever leaves your Mac:

  • Your name, email address, or any other personal identifier

  • Device identifiers of any kind

  • Location data

  • Usage data, analytics, telemetry or crash reports

  • Your photographs, or anything derived from them

  • Your galleries, captions, settings or file paths

  • Payment or financial information

  • Anything at all about how, when or whether you use the app

There is no account to create, no sign-in, and no way to create one. Galleria has no advertising, no third-party SDKs, and no tracking framework of any kind. It will never ask permission to track you, because there is nothing to track with.

The two network connections Galleria makes

Galleria is not an offline-only app, and it would be dishonest to describe it as one. It makes exactly two kinds of network connection, and you cause both.

1. Publishing to your own server.

If you set up an SFTP destination, Galleria connects to that server — yours, not ours — and uploads the website it built. It connects only when you ask it to publish, or when you have just selected that server and are about to. It never connects at launch, when you open a gallery, or on a timer. Your photographs go only to the address you typed in, and we never see them, know about them, or know that the connection happened.

Your server password or SSH private key is stored in the macOS keychain on your own Mac. It is never written into a gallery file, never sent anywhere except to the server you are authenticating to, and never visible to us.

2. The App Store.

Galleria asks the App Store whether you have a current subscription or a one-time unlock, and handles purchases through it. That traffic is between your Mac and Apple. We receive from Apple only the aggregate sales reports every developer gets — which tell us how many copies sold in which country, and nothing whatever about who you are.

Purchase verification happens entirely on your Mac. There is no licence server, no activation, and no phoning home.

Your photographs and galleries

Your originals stay where you put them and are never modified. Galleries are ordinary files on your own disk. Resized copies made for a website are written only to the folder or server you chose.

One thing worth knowing, because it is about your visitors’ privacy rather than yours: by default Galleria strips GPS coordinates from every published image, while keeping your copyright and byline. Publishing the exact location of a nest, a den, or your own home is a genuine harm, and it is the default we think is right. You can change it per gallery, in either direction.

Children

Galleria collects no personal information from anyone, of any age, so it presents no particular risk to children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, or the equivalent age where you live, because we do not collect information from anybody.

Your rights

Regulations such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export and delete the personal data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing to access, correct, export or delete. If you would like that confirmed in writing for your own records, write to us and we will confirm it.

Data you create in Galleria lives on your Mac and is yours to move or delete. Deleting the app removes its settings; your galleries and photographs are your own files and are left alone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. Because Galleria collects nothing, no change to this policy will ever introduce data collection without a separate, prominent notice in the app itself.
