Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to all applications published by LightOnCanvas ("we", "our", or "us"), including FirstPass, Location Fix, Hyper Focal Distance Calculators, and any other applications available on the Apple App Store or Mac App Store. Please read this policy carefully before using our applications.
Information We Do Not Collect
Apart from a mailing-list address you have chosen to give us — described below — our applications do not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal information or user data of any kind. Specifically, we never collect:
Personal identifiers such as name, phone number or address — and no email address except one you type into the mailing-list form yourself
Device identifiers such as IDFA, IDFV, serial number, or MAC address
Location data, precise or coarse
Usage data, analytics, or crash reports
Photos, contacts, calendars, or any other on-device content
Financial or payment information
Health or fitness data
Browsing history or search history
User-generated content
Inferred or derived data about users
One exception, and it is entirely yours to choose: the mailing list. If you type an email address into the signup form on this site — or into the one inside FirstPass, under Help and in the About window — that address is used to send you release notes. Nothing above changes: no name, no device, no usage data, and nothing about your photographs. See The mailing list below.
No Tracking
Our applications do not track users across other companies' applications or websites. We do not use any advertising networks, behavioural analytics SDKs, or third-party tracking frameworks. Our applications will never request permission to track you, and they are fully functional without any network connection or account creation.
Data Storage
Any data you enter or create within our applications (such as saved locations in Location Fix or settings in FirstPass) is stored exclusively on your own device. This data is never transmitted to our servers or any third-party servers because we operate no servers that receive user data. If you delete an application, all locally stored data associated with it is removed from your device.
Third-Party Services
Our applications do not integrate any third-party SDKs that collect user data. Links within our applications (for example, links to the Apple App Store) direct you to services operated by third parties. Those services have their own privacy policies which govern how they handle your information. We have no control over, and accept no responsibility for, their data practices.
Apple Platform Privacy
Our applications are distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store and Mac App Store. Apple may collect certain aggregated, non-identifiable information as part of the App Store platform. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy at apple.com/privacy for details.
The mailing list
We run one mailing list, for occasional notes about new releases. You can join it from the FirstPass page on this site, or from inside FirstPass itself — under Help, and in the About window. Both go to the same place and both are optional; nothing is sent and no address is collected unless you type one in and submit it.
The list is run by Buttondown, which stores the address and sends the messages. Your address is passed to them and to nobody else
Your address is the only thing collected. No name, no device information, no usage data, and nothing about your photographs or your files
Joining is confirmed by email first — an address that is never confirmed is never subscribed and never written to
Every message carries an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes the address from the list
The address is used for release notes and nothing else. It is never sold, never rented, and never used for advertising
The form on this site posts straight from your browser to Buttondown. It sets no cookie and runs no tracking script
Children's Privacy
Our applications collect no personal information at all, so they present no special privacy risk to children. The mailing list is the only place we hold an address, and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13, or the applicable age in your jurisdiction.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of our applications after any change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. Apart from a mailing-list address you have chosen to give us, we collect no user data — and any change to that will be disclosed here separately and prominently rather than folded into a revision.
